Creating a more sustainable future, rooted in a safe, secure and healthy food system with minimal environmental impact.

At the core of human survival is the food we eat, the water we drink, and the land these resources are tied to. But the safety and sustainability of these resources are under threat from a complex array of factors. The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is well positioned to face these challenges – and seize new opportunities.

We are committed to training a new generation of future-ready leaders through an education that transcends the traditional classroom.

We are providing services to the community and producing solutions that reduce the negative impact on our planet and make our use of natural resources more sustainable. This also means feeding sustainable technologies, methods and practices back to industry partners.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that we prioritize the health and nutrition of communities in Quebec, Canada and around the world.

Breathing new life into our learning spaces

The Macdonald Campus Farm is among AES’s crowning achievements. It is a living laboratory where research meets practice, where innovation meets sustainability, and where education meets experience. It boasts award-winning dairy pastures, a Horticulture Centre and sustainable poultry production. But our facilities are in dire need of modernization.

The Faculty is also at the forefront of teaching, learning and research, and we are committed to ensuring that our learning spaces are equipped with the infrastructure needed for research and innovation.

With your support, we can upgrade our facilities, research laboratories and classrooms, and integrate new tools to elevate research, enhance the student experience and build greater engagement with local communities.

Empowering tomorrow’s leaders

We are dedicated to preparing and supporting the next generation of agri-food leaders to respond to the range of challenges that will face our environmental and food systems, now and into the future.

Your support will help shape our students’ experiences through:

  • Scholarships and bursaries to recognize exceptional academic performance and help remove barriers to education
  • Entrepreneurial awards to provide funding for student innovation
  • Postdoctoral fellowships to help attract talented scholars

Strengthening research and education in Indigenous peoples’ food systems

The Centre for Indigenous Peoples’ Nutrition and Environment (CINE) was created by First Nations, Inuit and Métis organizations to address shifting concerns and priorities around traditional food systems. CINE aims to document and protect traditional Indigenous food systems and foster food security for remote communities. Its focus on multi-disciplinary research and education happens in collaboration with Indigenous communities.

Your support will facilitate AES’s partnerships and collaboration with remote communities, contributing to traditional food systems research as well as to recruiting and retaining top-quality scholars.

Driving impact-oriented agri-food research

A powerhouse in sustainable food production and environmental stewardship, AES has established expertise in priority areas like genetic roadmapping of foods, AI in animal welfare, and human nutrition.

Your support will allow AES to harness this expertise to further build and strengthen university-industry partnerships – increasing agility and efficiencies in the sustainable agri-food sector, producing more and better sources of nutritious food, and reducing consumer and environmental costs.

Strengthening community outreach

Our existing programs, including the Macdonald Campus Farm and the Morgan Arboretum, allow us to offer powerful community outreach and educational programming for school-age children.

With your support, we can sustain and expand this programming, educating children on environmental stewardship and the complex origins of their food, including soil, plant growth, animal husbandry, climate change and more.

Through this work, we can motivate young people to see the agricultural and environmental sectors as a future career option.
